Abstract

The process of examining witnesses in court is often influenced by psychological conditions and interactions between legal actors, so that verbal and nonverbal behavior becomes an important indicator in assessing the quality of testimony. This study aims to analyze the behavior of witnesses and defendants in criminal trials held at the Tondano District Court. The research method used a qualitative approach through direct observation of witness examination on November 26, 2025, focusing on verbal responses, nonverbal expressions, and the dynamics of legal interactions. The results of the study show a striking difference between emotionally stable witnesses and witnesses who show psychological pressure, including changes in testimony, excessive gestures, and emotional responses in the form of crying. The defendant appeared cooperative, remorseful, and gave smooth testimony without significant contradictions. Thus, psychological factors and the pressure of the judicial process have a direct influence on the quality of testimony, so an understanding of forensic psychology is necessary to strengthen the objectivity of evidence in court.
